Energy-Efficient Bank Drive-thru in Decorah

The new drive-thru facility opened August 6, 2008, and offers a few unique features that contribute to the sustainability efforts of Decorah Bank & Trust Company.  With the use of two-way video and audio, providing drive-thru service is possible without creating additional climate controlled space, because the tellers are located within the main facility in space that is already heated and cooled. 

Secondly, the new drive-thru has a sloped roof that faces south creating an opportunity to mount solar panels that feed into Decorah Bank’s electrical system to produce a portion of the electricity that is used.  “Though the solar panels cannot produce nearly as much electricity as we use, we are looking for ways to further reduce our consumption, “says Joe Grimstad, Executive Vice President of Decorah Bank & Trust.  Grimstad concluded, “If we can produce some electricity and reduce some consumption, we are doing what we can to operate in a more sustainable way.”
